These beautifully primitive granite beads come from Djenne in the African country of Mali. Bead researchers believe that they were probably made in the area before 1200AD.
Though they may have been rough at one time, these beads have been smoothed and polished with hundreds of years of wear. They've got a matte surface and minimal pitting making each bead unique.
The beads range from 7mm to retailer 13mm in length (hole to hole) and 18mm to 15mm wide. The holes are large and average about a 2-3mm (a few pieces are smaller, a few larger). Total length of strand is approx 13 inches.

This beads are indeed antique and it's condition reflects that. Worn edges and weathering are a product of time and use...not defects.
