Wenge and Walnut Octagon Box

This Octagon Box measures 5” x 5” and is 3 ¼” tall. There are 128 pieces on the box in the diamond and triangle shape. The box is finished in its natural color with 5 or 6 coats of a clear wiping varnish rubbed in by hand. The pieces are a bit over 3/16” thick glued onto a birch plywood base. The type of wood is listed on the bottom of the box from the center out. On this box is “Wenge” from West Africa and “Walnut” from Missouri. I made this box in 1993. On the bottom I signed it, listed the wood, and dated it. This is one of my older boxes, and the bottom edges are not rounded as nicely as on my newer boxes. It is lined with black velveteen.
