Vintage molded chalkware wall plaque from the Mid Century time frame is unsigned but is similar to Alexander Backer work found on Etsy. It adds so much to a vintage romantic bedroom.
Heavy plaque is a couple kissing with their faces/profiles joined side by side.
A similar piece is shown in the book “Fifties Homestyle” by Mark Burns and Louis DeBouis. (See last photos).
It measures 14” wide by 12” tall and about 3/4” thick. The young woman has a 1940's wavy hairdo with a pair of white and yellow flowers with green leaves adorning her hair and the young man also has retailer wavy hair. The faces are painted all over in a flesh color and they each have hand painted features including closed black eye lashes and red lips running together.
Condition is over 50 years old but good. His face has light vertical lines as though water ran on it, and her forehead has a small circular shaped surface chip where white shows through. There are a few dark smudges as seen in the photos.
The back of the plaque has a metal loop for securely attaching it to your wall. It is rough in texture on back side, and signed in pencil with the names of the previous owners. There is some type of damage and small cracks near the top that is taped and stabilized as shown in the last photo. I have used it myself for years.
