This is a monoprint etching. This paper is 9x12” Stonehenge 100% cotton rag. This is part of a series of botanical studies I'm working on.

This is the edition I pulled for June in my commitment to complete one edition of prints each month in 2020.

MONOPRINT ETCHING

I use repurposed retailer plastic blister packaging as printing plates for most of my etchings. I start by scratching/etching my line drawing into the plastic using an awl or a diamond tipped etching tool. I then scrape etching ink into the scratched lines and clean the surface of residual etching ink. Then I color the surface using oil paints or Akua soy based inks. I finish by running the plate with paper laid atop through my printing press. When I pull the paper away the inks have been transferred from the plastic plate to the paper. Since it takes several days to pull an edition of prints and each print is hand inked and painted there will be variation in the edition
