retailer A gorgeous and rare slab of old stock Blue Biggs Jasper. Measures approximately 70mm x 55mm x 6mm. All photos are taken dry.
Biggs jasper is a variety of the mineral jasper. It is a "picture jasper" – a jasper that exhibits particular patterns and colors – and is used as an opaque gemstone. It exhibits intricate, shell- or layer-like patterns in shades of brown ranging from beige to dark brown.
Blue Biggs and Biggs (brown), was discovered about 1965 in Oregon when Hwy 97 was cut through Biggs Canyon and came across this beautiful material. There was a mad scramble to get what could be gotten before the highway was put in. This started a search of the surrounding areas to find more of this material. Several locations were found in the surrounding area but most of the mines are depleted or closed down.
