Flame Box Elder Winged Wooden Centerpiece Bowl - Solid Hardwood

Flame Box Elder wood is prized for its rare coloration, streaks of dark red permeate this wood giving it the appearance of a blaze. This particular piece is made in a style called a winged bowl. It was hand-turned on a lathe. The unique design is accomplished by using a piece that is not symmetrical this way as the wood is spun on the lathe their a is void where wood would be on a normal lathe. This a challenging process as the wood has to be spun at a very high RPM so that the tools used to carve it do not "catch" in these voids. This bowl was finished with a friction polish. And protected with a solid coat of wax. It would serve as an excellent center-piece or fruit bowl.
