This unique handcrafted ballpoint pen is made with deer antler. The striking bolt action pen design replicates a .308 caliber bullet in rose gold and antique pewter finish casing and clip. The unusual mechanism to operate the pen is a rifle style bolt in the side of the casing. This pen is over the top with detail. The clip features a 3-D casting of a deer head and the bullet end of the casing has a full 360 degree deer in the woods relief etching.

The antler is carefully drilled to accept the pen components. The hole must be artfully placed to retain some of the surface bark and coloration but still provide a smoothly rounded finished shape. A thin brass tube is glued inside for light weight and strength and the resulting blank is then turned to shape to match the adjoining hardware. The finished turning is coated with 10 coats of acrylic finish to seal the antler pores and provide a smooth permanent protection from dirt and oils. Then buffed to a soft satin finish to give the antler a natural feel to the touch. Very much like ivory.

Your pen will also accept standard "Parker" style refills available at any office supply – though they may not equal the writing quality of a Schmidt refill.
