My goal is to provide high-quality original art that is affordable to the average consumer. With the advent of the internet it is no longer necessary to visit multiple galleries and haggle over prices to find the perfect piece of art. This painting was completed from life, in my studio. I look for symmetry when I paint and I like to arrange objects so that the colors play off of each other. The warmth of the oranges and the lemon, along with the pitcher, is highlighted by the slate background. I love painting pitchers and I have a large collection of them. Their status in history, their innate "usefulness" and their shape all draw me to them. I like pairing them with organic items like fruit and plants. The design is very important to me when I create these life-like pieces. I want the eye to move around the painting and investigate.

Realism is making a huge comeback in the art world. For 60 years artists threw paint at a canvas and the pieces were framed and hung in museums - much to the dismay of all of us who treasured works done by the old masters. Now the tide has turned and realism is valued again. The well painted nude, still life and landscape are again showing up at major galleries and shows. I am grateful because this is the kind of painting I excel at. No paint splatters or drips here. :)
