Collectible German Tin Limited Edition 1971. Gingerbread Large tin. E. Otto Schmidt Lebkuchen, made in Germany.
The top of the tin box has an image of A supremely gifted and versatile German artist of the Renaissance period, Albrecht Durer (1471–1528). Albrecht Durer was born in the Franconian city of Nuremberg, one of the strongest artistic and commercial centers in Europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. In 1971, Germany celebrated the 500th anniversary of the birth of this most talented artist. In the city of his birth, Nuremberg, a limited edition of such tin boxes was produced for this occasion, decorated with paintings by Albrecht Durer. On the top of the box is the artist's famous self-portrait dated 1500. In addition to paintings by this great artist, a large tin box is decorated with exquisite voluminous filigree relief decoration. This box is over 50 years old, is in vintage condition and shows signs of wear. Please see photo. This is indeed a rare find.
